Outdoor background - Design and model part 2(tower)

The tower can be separated into five parts: base, wall, middle floor, top room, and the roof level. 

The base part is a combination of chamber and pipes:

The middle part is originally designed as an observation deck. So, it has a balcony and excessive decorations. But those complicated designs are removed for the sake of reducing the production time.

Top of the tower is the laboratory where the battle in the animation happened. Producing process of it will be written in a separated blog.


The last part of the tower is the roof structure. It is a structure for providing energy to all floating elements in the scene.

Energy from the grand hole is first collected at the bottom of the floating island then pass through the chambers, tower, and the laboratory. All energy will be liquified and stored at the top of the tower. Three emitters at roof will transmit the energy to the top prisms. At last, the prism will vaporize the liquid energy and fill the area will the vaporized energy. Floating element will absorb these energies  and use them as fuel to keep itself floating.



The design inspiration of the top prism mainly came from two place. One is “Tatlin's Tower”. It inspired me with the idea of using simple floating geometry to form a tilted tower top. Another one is "creative media center". It inspired me to use inverted prism to construct a building.

In additional, those prisms are designed to have a contrast "top edge tilting direction” while being look from all angle. 

In the original design, there will be a station at the rim of the island which act as the normal enter to the island. But it is too complicated to build and useless in the animation. So, I did not build it.
